Having completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Izmir, Dr. Ahmet Soysal was graduated from Ege University Medical Faculty in 1983. He fulfilled his obligatory service in the Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak and performed his military service as a troop doctor in 53. Mechanised Infantry Regiment in Istanbul. He continued to work as the head doctor of Göçbeyli Health Care Center in the Bergama district of İzmir. In 1989, he started to work at the Konak Municipal Health Service in Izmir in 1989 and became the director of this unit at the same year. Beginning from that time, he started to work in the field of environmental health.

He compeled his master education on “Hospital and Health Institutions Management” at Dokuz Eylül University, Social Sciences Institute between 1994 and 1997. In the same year, he started his doctorate at the Department of Public Health at Dokuz Eylül University Medical Faculty and completed it in 2002.

He presented verbal and poster announcements in the field of environmental health in some congresses and symposiums, especially in the congresses regarding Public Health. He participated in some events held by Turkish Medical Association. He became the term spokesman of İzmir Medical Chamber for “İzmir-Bergama, Eşme, Sivrihisar, Havran-Küçükdere are Hand in Hand Movement ” organized with the participation of all professional chambers against “gold mining with cyanure leaching” between 2004 and 2005. He worked as a member of Health Commission during 23. Summer Universiade Games, from April 2004 till its end. He took charge in General Health Sub Commission (GSAK) working affiliated to the Health Commission. His main working fields were food and water security and solid waste management.

Dr. Ahmet Soysal is still working as an academician at the Department of Public Health at Dokuz Eylül Üniversity. He is also the field coordinator of the project “Balçova’nın Kalbi (BAK)” carried out together with Balçova Municipality and is the member of Dokuz Eylül University, Environment Research and Application Center (ÇEVMER) executive board. His main field of work is environmental health and the other one is chronical diseases epidemiology. He is married and has one child.
